Tips to keep your aquarium cool during hot weather
During hot weather, your aquarium water temperature will inevitably increase.
Generally, if this is not sudden or prolonged, it is not a problem, but higher temperatures will mean less dissolved oxygen and can leave your fish gasping for air.
Here are a few actions you can take to minimise any impact:
- Reduce ambient light in the room
- Reduce aquarium lighting (intensity and period)
- Increase surface agitation of the water
- Feed smaller portions of food
- Consider small (10-20%) water changes
Do Not switch off the thermostatically controlled aquarium heater
Do Not add cold water or ice directly to the aquarium
